DESERT VALLEY HOSPICE SOCIETY PROGRAMS AND SERVICES - serving Oliver, Osoyoos & OK Falls
Acute Care – Volunteers visit patients on the Acute Unit at SOGH and provide support.
Advance Care Planning – Community education presentations, workshops, and individual support to assist people in developing an Advance Care Plan and completing representation agreements.
Grief Support Program – Trained volunteers and staff provide one-on-one grief support, education and referrals. Some clients receive regular phone calls for one-year from our Telephone Bereavement Support Program.
Hospice Volunteer Training Program – 36-hour training sessions are conducted 1-2 times per year.
Hospitality Suites – Four bedrooms at our Supportive Care Centre are for families visiting loved ones who are nearing end-of-life. Full-size kitchen and laundry facilities onsite.
Memories & Messages “The Social Way” – Clients are interviewed by a Hospice Volunteer and Student Volunteer, recording their stories digitally with Ipads and creating end products that can be printed, shared through social media with family and friends near and afar.
Nav-CARE – Seniors are assigned volunteer Navigators to support them in locating local services and resources. Connecting them with their community and relieving feelings of loneliness and isolation.
One-to-One Client Support – Volunteers offer support in homes, care facilities or hospital. Social companioning and short-term respite can be part of this service. Also, Vigils are available at end-of-life.
Palliative Massage - Volunteers trained in Palliative Massage offer comforting massage to clients and caregivers.
Supportive Care Day Program – A supportive day program for clients with life limiting illnesses, early Dementia and or isolation. Socialization, activities, nutritious lunches, and education. Caregivers welcome!
Tuck-In Program – Clients receive a phone call every Thursday afternoon to ensure they have medications, equipment, supplies, and care in place for the weekend.
