THE CRISIS:The category 5 Hurricane Dorian made landfall over the northwest Bahamas on September 1st. The hurricane is the strongest in the history of the Bahamas. The storm has damaged infrastructure and caused massive ﬂooding in the areas of Abaco and Grand Bahama. Damage assessments are still ongoing, however 5 people have been killed and over 68,000 people in the Bahamas have been aﬀected by the storm. With damage extensive, people in the Bahamas are in immediate need of clean water, food, and shelter items. GlobalMedic is responding.
THE RESPONSE: GlobalMedic is shipping Family Emergency Kits to the Bahamas to respond to those in need. A Family Emergency Kit contains a water puriﬁcation solution, that will provide a family clean drinking water and essential hygiene items including bars of soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste to help mitigate the spread of communicable diseases post-disaster. Finally, the kit contains a solar light, which will provide families with a light source as power is out in the majority of aﬀected areas. As well, GlobalMedic is deploying its Rapid Response Team to provide on the ground assistance to Bahamians in need.
