RAISING FUNDS FOR A CHICKEN EGG INCUBATOR
Our vision is to establish home-grown, sustainable solutions in support of our programs in Rwanda. One of these solutions is the Embrace Rwanda Chicken Centre, built in 2017, just outside the Rwandan capital of Kigali. Three thousand chickens were raised in the first year to provide the initial brood for the Chicken Centre as well as to initiate a supply for the Healthy Mums Program. Chickens were distributed to 580 Mums in our programs who had received training in the proper care and raising of chickens.
The results are impressive!...
- Chickens retained in the Centre now produce 2,000 eggs per day which we sell to help sustain the project.
- Mums sell eggs to buy flour, soap, oil, rice and other necessities to support their families.
- Chicken manure nourishes the production of healthy vegetables in their kitchen gardens.
Why do we need an incubator?
An incubator will enable the Chicken Centre to produce upwards of 5,000 chicks per month. This will be a significant step in our ongoing efforts to achieve self sustaining programs for vulnerable Rwandans.
