Helping Calgary Kids Discover the Joys the Arts Bring.
Footprints Dance Project was established to provide high-quality no cost opportunities in the performing arts and dance to children and youth who face economic, social, physical, and gender barriers and those who otherwise would not be able to participate.
Since 2004 many of the students in Footprints Dance Project are New Canadians or from single parent households. Often our participants spend their evenings and weekends caring for younger siblings. Parents work as night cleaners, cab drivers and evening stocking clerks. Parents are challenged both financially and with limited time to be active in their children's lives.
• 50% of Footprints Dance Project parents are immigrants or refugees from the Middle East and Africa.
• Parents are working low-income jobs; usually include evening and weekend shift work.
• 60% of Footprints Dance Project students are single parent families with 3 – 5 children.
• 5% of Footprints Dance Project students are from First Nations families.
