Enriching the lives of park users by providing opportunities to engage in nature

The Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society offers Nature Walking through Grief and Loss in partnership with Mount Royal University to provide essential support to community members experiencing a major transition through our Good Grief program. Whether it is the loss of a loved one, job or relationship, a significant change in health or mobility, or other deep changes – spending time in nature with people who are on a similar journey provides much needed support.

Each outing begins with a reading or a shared experience, followed by a walk on a fairly easy 1.5-2.0 km route. Each of the four routes will be repeated once during the eight-week program – a chance for participants to reflect on the changes in the landscape and themselves over time. Time, nature and low-pressure companionship can be our best supports.  With your contributions, we can offer Good Grief to those who may have financial restrictions, providing a helping hand at a time when our community needs it most!

Alongside Alberta Parks, the Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society encourages an appreciation of the province’s natural and cultural heritage including land use, education, and recreation. We maximize environmental and social benefits by designing programs the empower people to meaningfully embrace nature. Fish Creek Provincial Park is bordered by seven constituencies encompassing some 350,000 Calgarians, creating the perfect opportunity to offer programming that improves the quality of life for current and future generations.
