Friends of Fish Creek Support
Sustaining revenue for long-term project sustainability and future opportunities
The Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society continues to engage the community through activities and awareness to conserve a truly unique naturalized urban park because of the generosity of people like you!
Established in 1992 and incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization in 1993. The organization promotes positive community outcomes for Canada’s second-largest urban park by focusing primarily on resource management, research and engagement programs:
- Watershed Stewardship
- Community Outreach and Awareness
- Friendmaking and Fundraising
- Governance and Administration
Today, the Friends works with park management, volunteers, members, sponsors, donors, and community organizations. In 2024 alone, our small but mighty team was able to partner with 50 organizations, provide over 300 stewardship days to volunteers, and engage with over 2,000 members of the public, delivering programs, courses and events in the park year-round within the spirit of a Cooperating Agreement as directed by the organization’s strategic plan.
Fish Creek Provincial Park was established in 1975, spanning 13.48 km2 of protected land in Calgary. The most recent Parks’ data estimates nearly 4 million visits annually. In 2019, the Government of Alberta election platform included a commitment to strengthen partnerships with park societies in recognition of their important role in maintaining and improving parks across the province.
