In 2020, Girl Guides of Canada will mark a major milestone – 100 years of Brownies! As one of the oldest branches in Guiding history, Brownies are just as important today as they were when they started. The Brownie program encourages girls to develop their sense of self, build positive relationships and gain confidence by trying new things at a formative time in their development.
100 Years of Girl Empowerment
Originally called “Rosebuds,” girls in Guiding demanded that their branch be renamed as Brownies. The girls believed these helpful mythical creatures better reflected their character and uniqueness. Given the Brownie history, it is no surprise that girls in Guiding today are empowered to use their voice and take action to improve their communities.
For over a century, Girl Guides of Canada has been the leading organization dedicated solely to girls, offering fun and relevant programming to more than 7 million girls across the country. Guiding is where girls shine as they take the lead through activities designed just for them. The result? Girls who are ready to navigate the world as leaders and changemakers.
Open opportunities for a girl today by giving the gift of Guiding.
Your gift to subsidize girl membership costs can help more girls in Canada access Brownies, giving them skills and friendships that last a life time.
And the need is in high demand. This year alone we saw a 45% increase in requests for girl membership subsidies. Let’s ensure that all girls who want to be part of Guiding – who want to jump into fun activities, make new friends, and discover how to make a difference, all in a safe space designed just for them – have the access they truly deserve.
With your support, we can continue to put girls first.
