The New Groves Hospital Project will bring a brand‐new hospital facility to Centre Wellington. It will be nearly double in size to better fit our growing community, it will meet and exceed all accessibility standards, meet infection control standards, have 80% private rooms, will accommodate modern technology, and have an on‐site helipad. The growth percentage for all outpatient/day services will be significant to accommodate the needs of our growing community; Ambulatory Care will grow by 149%, Diagnostic Imaging by 101%, and the Emergency Department by 76%.
The hospital is to be built in Aboyne, on a greenfield space, with room to expand the hospital in future if the population spikes. On June 15th, 2017; Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Groves Memorial Community Hospital awarded a fixed-price contract to EllisDon Infrastructure Inc. to design, build, and finance the New Groves Hospital. Groundbreaking took place on August 9th, 2017 and construction is now well underway. Substantial completion is expected in late 2019, with move in expected to take place in 2020.
The Foundation has undertaken a $20 Million Capital Campaign to support the New Groves Hospital project. The Ministry of Health will cover 90% of the physical building, with the community expected to raise 10% of the build and almost all costs for equipment, furnishings, and IT. The New Groves Hospital will enhance the programs and services provided to our patients, as outlined above. We have included a proposal with greater detail regarding the project, for your review.
