Humanitarian emergency in Lebanon! (Your donation matched by the government)
Already weakened by years of economic and political crisis, Lebanon is now facing a new humanitarian catastrophe. On Monday September 23, Israeli air strikes in the south and east of the country killed 600 people and wounded 2,000 in a single day.
“More than 1,800 strikes hit Lebanon on Monday. We condemn these massive and intense bombardments which took place in populated areas. Civilians must be protected from any armed violence"- Florence Daunis - Director of International Programs at Humanity & Inclusion.
More than 100,000 people have been displaced in southern Lebanon since the escalation of violence at the end of 2023, forced to flee their homes to take refuge in precarious conditions. Among them are people with disabilities, vulnerable families and children, who are disproportionately affected by the conflict.
Humanity & Inclusion has been working in the country since 1992, providing immediate and long-term support to affected communities. Our teams are on the ground assessing the most urgent needs and preparing to step up their response. Together with local partners, our experts are preparing to offer mobility aids and rehabilitation care to people with new injuries or disabilities. Mental health services are also planned for people who have suffered trauma.
Our priority is humanitarian action. We are working in the Bekaa Valley, Mount Lebanon, Beirut and South Lebanon, the areas hardest hit since October 2023 and the escalation of violence between Israel and Hezbollah.
Over the past 11 months, we have already provided 1,100 mobility aids, such as crutches and wheelchairs; we have also organized the distribution of over 2,000 packs of diapers for vulnerable children; and we are providing psychosocial support for displaced people.
Every gesture counts to enable our teams to continue their work. The days and weeks ahead will be crucial, and it's important to act quickly so that no one is left behind.
In the face of this catastrophe, we need your urgent support!
In parallel, HI and several other humanitarian actors continue to call on all parties to immediately cease hostilities in the region to allow unconditional aid and prevent further intensification of the crisis.
