For the last 36 years, HIV Community Link has offered support and harm reduction services to Albertans living with and at risk of HIV, and in our current economic times, the need for our services is growing. You can help by donating today!
Monica has been volunteering with HIV Community Link for 19 years. Having received her diagnosis 25 years ago, Monica recalls being scared and feeling so isolated and alone. Seeking connection and inclusion, she decided to get in touch with HIV Community Link. Here, she found a sense of belonging and regained her voice telling her story to students in schools and assisting current and future health care providers to understand the impact of an HIV diagnosis. Today, Monica is a Peer Navigator in our Peer Program, helping those newly diagnosed to know they are not alone, a support that she did not have at the time of her diagnosis and that we need to make available for more people.
This past year, HIV Community Link has experienced a much higher and more diverse demand for our services than ever before. Building on the success of our Calgary Peer Program we have launched a Peer Support program in Medicine Hat, supporting those at risk for HIV and hepatitis C transmission to understand how to make healthier choices.
