Canada’s anthem declaring the ‘true north, strong and free’ may proclaim equality for all, but we are far from that desired vision. We are created to live in freedom, unity and equality. The question remains: do we live by it in our own life, families and communities?
Although we are celebrating 150 years as a nation, we also recognize the foundation laid by the Indigenous peoples of Canada since time immemorial.
This summer, we are excited to participate in Canada Helps Great Canadian Challenge. We see this not only as a fundraising slogan to commemorate this time in history, but likewise educate Canadians on the issue sexual exploitation and how it affects our own Canadian citizens.
- Did you know:
- 93% of trafficked victims in Canada are Canadian
- The average age of entry into prostitution is 13- 14 years old
- Within 24-48 hours, runaways are often picked up by a pimp to be trafficked
Sadly there is an overrepresentation of Indigenous women and girls caught up in sex trafficking in our nation even though Indigenous people make up just 4% of our national population. This rich culture and people group are still overcoming the severe oppression and acts of colonialism of the generations before them. As we hope for a greater future for Canada, we stand with our Indigenous brothers and sisters to advocate and fight for the reconciliation of past and present injustices inflicted upon them.
“What will the next 150 years look like for Canada?
- Join us by donating to the Great Canadian Challenge:
- as we seek to reverse the curse upon this land that degrades human dignity.
- as we do our part to end human trafficking in our home and native land.
- as we face the injustices that commodify people.
May we join hands and hearts to truly bring restoration, hope and renewal to all trapped in this form of modern day slavery.
Join with us this summer as we participate in the Great Canadian Challenge as we raise awareness to support our general fund during this launch year! We've extended this challenge throughout July, click here to support our cause:
