To End Violence Against Women
About Vancouver Rape Relief and Women's Shelter
Established in 1973, Vancouver Rape Relief Society is Canada's first rape crisis centre. We incorporated in 1975 and in the early 1980s opened a transition house. We operate a free 24-hour confidential crisis line and emergency shelter for women and their children escaping male violence. We provide advocacy, accommpaniment, information, referrals, and peer support for women as they navigate the medical, justice, and social institutions.
As a collective we work to transform social attitudes, laws and institutional procedures that perpetuate violence against women. We engage the public through prevention education initiatives and work with other groups and leaders against poverty, women's inequality, and for peace, social justice and sustainability of resources for future generations.
What People Are Saying
"“Thank you so much for the help you have given me and my loved ones, I appreciate your honesty and empathy so much. I don't have anything worth the help that you give to everyone you cross, but I received some... money and I wanted to at least give some money so you can keep doing what you do.”"
