The Kawartha-Haliburton Children's Foundation offers positive experiences which give children of abuse and neglect the tools to help overcome a lifetime of challenges. Many are now living apart from their parents and are trying to regain their childhood. Some have physical and emotional disabilities. All of these children deserve this unique opportunity to learn and interact in a relaxed environment without the pressure of school.
After months of social isolation our most vulnerable children and youths desperately need to engage in outdoor physical activities previously limited by COVID-19. Sadly, fear and uncertainty affects children of abuse and neglect at an intensified level. They understand all too well that when things are not right in the world, they will experience more trauma, both physically and mentally.
Our Soaking up the Summer Program will provide $25,000 - $50,000 worth of outdoor recreational equipment and toys designed to encourage healthy outdoor and fun physical activity. Items include scooters, skateboards, helmets, sprinklers, lawn games, sidewalk chalk, water bottles, sunscreen, and of course, bubbles. The list goes on and on.
Although we are not able to provide a week-long overnight summer camp experience, our goal is deliver outside recreational equipment and fun activities to these children’s homes to play in their backyards, on sidewalks, and in parks and common areas.
