The 2019 -2020 School year is now in full swing and our theme for this year’s Annual Giving Campaign is Go The Extra Mile. This campaign reflects our School's continued commitment to excellence. We are committed to making this School better and more accessible with each passing year.
Phase One: Completed! Jakeman Field converted to synthetic grass.
Used day and night in the Autumn, Spring, and Winter for gym class, games, practices, cadets, and general fun, the conversion of Jakeman Field from natural to artificial turf has been transformative for our students. With climate change we are unable to use our natural grass fields from late October to May, or during heavy rain. We have now gained six months of use, and with the stadium lights we are not reliant on daytime hours either!
Phase Two: Going the Extra Mile and finishing the Track of Payne.
Surrounding Jakeman Field is an unfinished 400-metre, eight lane, crusher-dust running track. Our Go the Extra Mile goal is to raise enough funds to properly honour Guy Payne’s 53 year legacy as a running coach here at KES and to make it an official IAAF certified rubber track. Once complete (paved and rubberized), this complex will not only take our athletics programme to a new level but will also make the KES outdoor athletics facility the first of its kind at the high school level in Nova Scotia!
We are committed to building on the solid foundation that Mr. Payne created for us and push ourselves to be better each and every day. Our goal is to have “The Track of Payne” completed by the Fall of 2020.
P.S. Student Financial Aid is always a priority at KES. Every time you give to Scholarships you are making it possible for Students to bridge the gap between their finances and educational goals. Thanks to a combination of KES Alumni, Parents, Grandparents, Faculty, and Friends who go the extra mile each year, 1/3 of our Students are currently receiving financial aid! Your generosity helps perpetuate a tradition of excellence at KES.
