L'Arche Toronto is a community within the community working with others to create a world where everyone belongs. For the last three years, L'Arche Toronto's program Sol Express has performed at the Toronto Fringe Festival. We are currently developing our show for this year and want to make as many of our performances as accessible as possible. We would like to provide, in addition to relaxed performances, audio description for audience members who are blind or have low vision, and American Sign Language for deaf or hard-of hearing audience members. These measures will cost $6,000.
Audio Described Performances offer Low Vision and Blind audience members a companion piece to the shows delivered through an earpiece and a small receiver. The Audio Described Performance will outline the events happening on stage – including relevant sets, costumes, and non-verbal actions – in a delivery style that matches the tone and presentation of the play.
ASL Interpreted performances offer Deaf or hard-of hearing audiences to enjoy the performance to have the spoken work translated into sign language.
L’Arche Toronto Sol Express needs to raise $1,500 per show and rehearsal, for each of these inclusive access measures. We are looking for sponsors to help us provide as many performances, as possible, that are highly accessible to Toronto audiences. Ideally we would like to raise at least $6,000. All sponsors will be acknowledged in the program and in the L’Arche Toronto annual report.
