L’Arche Toronto Sol Express is an innovative creative and performance arts program that focuses on developing the talents and skills of artists with intellectual disabilities.
The Sol Express Performance Arts stream consists of individuals with a passion for performance. Participating artists develop skills, consult with professionals, and explore the creative process through movement, voice, music, theatre, and dance.
The Sol Express Creative Arts stream encourages creative expression through various artistic methods and techniques. The program is structured around visual arts, music, movement, storytelling, and multi-media productions.
Sol Express Performance Arts and Sol Express Creative Arts collaborate to produce original works that range from on-stage performances to visual-art showcases. Sol Express participated in the Disability Arts Showcase at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and has performed and exhibited art at venues such as the Papermill Theatre at Todmorden Mills, the Toronto Fringe Festival, Miles Nadal JCC and Nathan Phillips Square.
L’Arche Toronto’s Sol Express promotes inclusion, friendship, self-confidence, and community building.
Since its inception in 2007, Sol Express has been rooted in skill development from values-based/interpersonal skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership, reliability, and responsibility, to hands-on experience in set design, art exhibition, production, and performance. Sol Express strives to reveal the dignity and integrity of the art created by individuals with a range of abilities.
