MAKE SURE WE HAVE ACCESSIBLE RIDES!! Van replacement campaign
Nancy does not let physical, intellectual or mobility limitations hold herself back from experiencing life. Along with the support of an assistant, Nancy frequents Variety Village, volunteers in the community and is passionate about shopping and stopping for cups of tea. She also regularly attends a local day program and health care appointments. Because Nancy cannot travel alone, L’Arche Toronto maintains a fully accessible wheelchair van primarily for her use. You need only see Nancy to know that she is really enjoying her active life style and quality of life.
We need to be able to provide accessible rides for women and men with physical and intellectual disabilities so that they can get to where they need and want to go! Be it, their day program, their employment or volunteer position or to visit Variety Village to have a swim with their L’Arche support assistant. The vehicle is also needed to ensure they can keep appointments with doctors, dentists and therapists, and to go on outings.
L’Arche Toronto has an aging wheelchair accessible van which needs to be replaced. The vehicle which is close to ten years old has had high usage on a daily and weekly basis transporting individuals. To maintain a safe and available vehicle we need to replace vans every eight to ten years. Without these vehicles, the quality of life of our residents would suffer tremendously. As the population in our homes ages the need for a modern wheelchair accessible van increases. Many are beginning to experience mobility issues. In other words, L’Arche Toronto cannot deliver on its mission of ‘creating a world where everyone belongs’ without the ongoing support of fully accessible wheelchair vehicles. Your donation of $100 will help to provide accessible rides along with support!
