A major event for the international missionary community will be held this summer in Bolivia: the 5th Missionary Congress of the Americas. This gathering will be an opportunity for the MIC Missionary Press as well as the Institute of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception to share their ideas, their challenges and success with many other religious congregations, university researchers, and individuals interested in questions, such as: Today, how do we understand “mission”? How can we keep our faith alive? How can we adequately transmit it to those who come our way? So many issues need our attention and active response.
Our communication and development agent, Audrey Charland, will be among the thousand participants, from the four corners of the continent, who will look into those serious questions. Her presence will also allow her to promote our magazines: Le Précurseur/MIC Mission News and to present our new website: The Virtual Center of the MIC Historical Missionary Memory. Along this line, we hope to encourage other organizations and individuals in preserving their religious, social and cultural heritage.
Furthermore, this journey in South America will give our agent an occasion to come in contact with the MIC missions in Bolivia and Peru, to learn more about the Sisters’ daily activities. Camera in hand, she will capture memorable moments witnessing the reality of a missionary’s life in the mission field. These photos will be a source of invaluable information and interesting anecdotes for our future issues.
