This area of forests, fields and marshes, just north of the airport, is/was home to an astonishing variety of wildlife and an amazing number of rare water birds: egrets, herons, grebes, rails, bitterns, and soras.
Technoparc Montreal; however, has drained most of the marshes and built a road through the forest. Claiming that the area has little ecological value, they want to build six large buildings with their parking lots. The effects on the ecology and the bird populations have been devastating.
The Green Coalition, funded by the Legacy Fund for the Environment, has filed an injunction to halt the project. It is contesting the validity of the environmental assessments on which the building permits were issued and is asking that the area be restored to its original state. The case begins on February 3, 2020 at the Palais de justice de Montréal, 1 Notre-Dame East at 9:30 a.m.
