Each year, the London Abused Women's Centre, in partnership with title sponsor Hassan Law, hosts the International Women's Day Breakfast and Auction event to raise much needed funds for front-line services at the centre. Taking place on the Friday closest to International Women's Day (March 8th), this is the agency's single-largest annual fundraiser. At this event, we also welcome a guest speaker to share their experience and insights on issues that affect women.
The 18th Annual International Women's Day Breakfast & Auction
Friday March 9th, 2018 - 7am-9am (doors open at 6:30am)
The International Women's Day Breakfast is an annual fundraiser that takes place in support of the London Abused Women's Centre (LAWC). Each year we welcome a keynote speaker to share their experiences while focusing on a particular topic that affects women. The community gathers to hear inspired words from our guest speaker, bid on Silent and Live Auction items, as well as take part in other fundraising games. All of the items featured in the auctions and games are generously donated by many businesses in London, surrounding area, and beyond. The morning is a great opportunity to connect with fellow community members and raise money for an important cause and vital services for abused women.
This year's keynote speak is Najwa Zebian. Najwa is a Lebanese-Canadian author, speaker, and educator. When she arrived in Canada at the age of sixteen, she felt unstable and adrift in an unfamiliar place. Nevertheless, she completed her education, and went on to become a teacher as well as a doctoral candidate in educational leadership. Her first students, a group of young refugees, led her back to her original passion: writing. She began to heal her sixteen-year-old self by writing to heal her students. Since self-publishing her first collection of poetry and prose in 2016, Najwa has become an inspiration to millions of people worldwide. She has become a trailblazing voice for women everywhere and was name dropped by the New York Times and CBS News among others. Drawing on her own experiences of displacement, discrimination, and abuse, Najwa uses her words to encourage others to build a home within themselves; to live, love, and create fearlessly.
We look forward to seeing you bright and early at the London Convention Centre on Friday, March 9th, 2018
