Hike for Happiness
MISSION SERVICES OF LONDON
Hike for Happiness is a non competitive family friendly walk/hike geared to raise funds to support individuals living with Mental Health issues. It is a well known fact that physical exercise is an important piece of mental health treatment and recovery. The Hike for Happiness offers participants the opportunity to enjoy a morning hike or walk in one of London’s Environmentally Significant Areas (ESA).
2017 will mark the fourth anniversary of the Hike for Happiness, so far this event has raised over $40,000 in support of programs in the London area. All donations go towards helping mental health patients access treatment. This help may be in the form of funding access to treatment services, covering transportation costs and covering expenses to overcome barriers such as childcare during treatment.
The 2017 Hike for Happiness will raise funds in support of Community Mental Health Programs (a branch of Mission Services of London). Community Mental Health Programs (CHMP) offers various support services to assist the needs individuals experiencing homelessness, those “at risk” of becoming homeless, as well as those experiencing mental health and addiction issues. CMHP promotes rehabilitative, harm reduction and recovery-based models of service to provide opportunities for clients to attain their self-identified goals.
The funds raise will specifically be designated to provide clients with transportation to medical appointments either via LTC Bus tickets, Taxi cab voucher, or staff mileage (Streetscape outreach workers or Transitional Case Manager who accompany their clients to medical appointments). In addition, a portion of the funds will go toward allowing CMHP clients sign up and attend conferences, and/or seminars to help them in reach their individual goals.
