The GMS Queen City Marathon was born in the winter of 2000, when local runners realized that out of all capital cities in Canada, Regina (also known as “the Queen City”) was the only city that did not have a marathon event! Immediately they got to work, and the first Queen City Marathon took place on September 23rd, 2001.

In 2017, over 6,600 registered participants took part in the event, including people from all across Canada, the USA and the rest of the world!

This year, the GMS Queen City Marathon will take place from September 7th – 9th. The event will host a marathon, a half marathon, marathon relay, 10k, family 5k, night owl 5k and a kid’s mini marathon, all over the course of three days.

TEAMmito will be taking part in the race again this year. If you would like to join a team, register as an individual runner, or simply donate – please click the respective buttons located above.

Our TEAMmito goal this year is the MITOsea2sea challenge where we are attempting to cover 7200kms as a team during many events (this one included!) and raise $72,000! To see our progress please click here.

Every donation makes an impact – and by donating, you are helping us raise mitochondrial disease awareness, providing knowledge and support to patients, families and caregivers, as well as funding transformational research initiatives. For now, there is no cure. But your donations today will bring us one step closer to a cure tomorrow.

“Mitochondria are tiny structures inside almost every cell in the body. Their main job, is to use food and oxygen to make energy. When the mitochondria fail, less and less energy is converted within the cell. Depending on where the affected cells are, parts of the body may not work properly and many health problems can result. There is currently no cure for mitochondrial disease.” (
