In 2019, a couple of our OPACC community-based parent support groups hosted special retreats to give mothers of children with cancer an opportunity for much-needed respite and self-care, as well as a chance to take some time for themselves to rest and recharge surrounded by other moms who totally understand. The retreats included meals and activities such as yoga, massage, art therapy, crafts, carriage rides, and quiet time to simply chat and connect with peers.
The retreats were offered at no cost to the moms, funded in part by OPACC's community group grants, third-party fundraisers, individual donations, and support from a generous community.
Both initial retreats received rave reviews from the happy attendees! OPACC would like to grow this successful model to fund future retreats and make it a regular support program offering. We would like to continue offering retreats not only for moms, but also for other specific groups of childhood cancer parents such as dads and bereaved parents. We need your help to do this by donating to our parent retreat fund. Thank you!
