On Wednesday June 12th, 2019, PCLS received government budget cuts equaling over a million dollars. Funding commitments to clinic space in the community are also insecure. We moved to three temporary locations as of July 31, 2019.
Since 1971, PCLS has provided essential services in this low-income community in Toronto. The provision of vital legal services to members of this large, bustling, and beautiful community is at stake. The impact on the community is severe.
We urgently require your support to maintain direct services. With 48 years in the community, PCLS is looking forward, not back. We need your support to do this. We are committed to staying in the community and focused on legal representation, education, outreach and organizing that fights the impacts of poverty, amplifies voices, and organizes for change.
Without funding from the government or increased funding from our donors, Osgoode Hall Law School and Legal Aid Ontario, PCLS is in dire need of funds. The clinic is reaching out to individual donors like you to help us survive. Your donation will help save the clinic and allow us to continue to serve the community. Please give today and please give generously.
Your funds will go to support:
- adequate space in the community to meet confidentially with community members who require legal services
- moving costs
- communications and student education costs
- community legal programming
- legal filing fee
