Pastors in Exile (PiE) is an Anabaptist rooted movement seeking to create spaces for young adults in the Waterloo Region to connect and explore faith and spirituality. We are especially passionate about exploring life on the margins of Christianity and church.
Your gift to PiE would support a variety of initiatives by young adults in the community including:
Feminist Bible Study
This weekly Thursday night group is for those who identify as women, non-binary, or trans and want to study Scripture from a feminist perspective - listening for the voices from the margins of Biblical stories. For many, this group is an essential part in reclaiming the Bible as a life giving and sacred text.
This group gathers twice a month to explore the intersections of sexuality/gender identity and faith. For LGBTQ+ Christians, church can be an immensely painful place and in the queer community, it may feel difficult to find spaces to explore Christian faith. Queerly Christian seeks to provide a safe space for people to be fully themselves - and to be loved and affirmed for all aspects of their identity.
For a year and a half now, another group of young adults have gathered around the idea of becoming disciples in the Grand River Watershed. In this time of ecological crisis, climate change, and uncertainty, what does it mean to follow Jesus in a particular ecosystem? From pond studies to book discussions and water songs, this group is trying to deepen our connection to this place.
These are just a few of PiE's core activities right now. We also host a blog, run retreats, meet people one-on-one for supportive conversations and spiritual care, and preach in local congregations.
