This year, the Perth & District Union Public Library encourages our community to consider making a contribution to the 2018 Summer Literacy Program.
The Perth Union Library’s Summer Literacy Program is designed for children in JK-Grade 3 who have been recommended by their teachers for extra help with their reading and writing. Research shows that keeping children reading over the summer months makes a significant difference in terms of maintaining reading levels between school years and ensuring all children are able to develop sufficient literacy skills to carry them through life. The Summer Literacy Program pairs post-secondary students studying education with area children for one-on-one tutoring sessions. The goal of this program is to improve attitudes towards reading and to increase students’ confidence about their ability to succeed.
“I would recommend this program to everyone. Amazing tutors!” said a parent of a child in the 2017 Summer Literacy Program.
In 2017, the program was able to serve over 100 children because of support from our community. The library’s goal is to raise $13,000 to run the 2018 program. You can help us by donating to the library below. Charitable tax receipts are provided for all eligible donations. We appreciate your support.
