Training subsistence farmers, primarily women, to maintain bees and process honey to develop an independent cash income for the family.
Honey and beeswax require no refrigeration and there is a ready cash market throughout the region. beekeeping naturally fits into the subsistence farming lifestyle of the families and can contribute significantly to family cash flow with just a few hives in place.
However producing high quality honey requires significant training and in investment in hives, bee suits and equipment while nominal by western standard is out of the reach of these families.
We already have four groups trained and producing honey and want to expand our groups and develop a honey processing centre and coop to ensure a steady fair market price for the families
