My name is Gio, and this fall I will be running the length of Vancouver Island from Port Hardy to Victoria to raise funds for the "Safeguard Coastal Carnivores" campaign.
I was born and raised in the small west coast town of Ucluelet on Vancouver Island. Growing up in Ucluelet allowed me to experience the beauty of nature and everything contained within it. As a result, I developed an appreciation and understanding of the role that nature plays in our world.
When I first heard about the Safeguard Coastal Carnivores campaign at an event held at UVic, I knew instantly that I wanted to do something to contribute and spread the word. I have lived in close proximity to these beautiful creatures my entire life, and find it incredibly sad and unethical that we kill these animals for our own recreation.
My hope with this run is to inspire others to take action themselves, allowing us to end commercial trophy hunting in BC for good.
