The Regina and Area Sexual Assault Centre is a registered non-profit charitable organization that has been providing support to those impacted by sexual violence for over 45 years. Sexual violence is experienced by 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men by the time they are 18 years. The long-term impacts of sexual violence can be profound for many people - shattering their sense of safety in their body and in their world. This ultimately affects many areas of their lives, including employment, health, mental health, education and relationships. More broadly, the prevalence of sexual violence and its impacts affect the safety and economy of our community.
Each year, RSAC provides between 1200-1500 hours of counselling by qualified staff, answer 300-380 calls on our crisis line and provide over 70 hours of public and professional education. Counsellors are highly skilled to deliver complex trauma therapy to those who are prepared to do this work. The Centre's work is guided by a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and client-directed philosophy.
Originally named the Regina Women's Community Centre, the name was changed in 2013 to the Regina Sexual Assault Centre to be more inclusive and reflect the spectrum of people we serve. Staff provide one-on-one counselling, support for police reporting and hospital accompaniment, as well as advocacy activities related to justice and health reform.
The Centre is grateful for funding support from the Gov't of Saskatchewan; however, this funding only covers approximately 65% of our needs. The remainder is thanks to generous donations and some project grants.
