Walk In My Shoes 2019
I know you will agree with me that everyone needs a place to call home. A home is a place that lightens our hearts and gives us comfort to resort to at the end of a challenging day, however this is not the reality of the estimated 2000 young people homeless on the streets of the GTA nightly. As it currently stands Brampton ON has no long term supports or transitional housing for youth faced with homelessness. According to research conducted by organizations such as United Way Peel in 2016, the rates of youth homelessness in these cities are at crisis levels (source:https://www.mississauga.com/opinion-story/6560673-stunning-statistics-drive-need-to-help-peel-s-homeless-youth/).
The vision of R.E.S.T. is to reduce the rate of homelessness among youth leaving foster care.
That's why this year R.E.S.T together with reStart charity, I Care Global, Women of Wonders Canada will be hosting Walk In My Shoes 2019 to raise awareness on issues surrounding youth homelessness in Peel. This community accessible event will be a gathering of community members and leaders from across the Greater Toronto Area. Proceeds from the event will be going towards our continued efforts to support homeless youth
