Night Stand Project

Our frail and elderly are often faced with giving up their homes, furniture, and belongings as they move into the next chapter of their lives.  Imagine when all you have is a small space to call your own, how important it is to have that space as nice as possible.

We all want our family members to live out their golden years contently. That’s why I am asking for your support of a major project by Rocmaura Foundation.

We are working on a new $156-thousand-dollar Nightstand & Headboard Project. This is the next phase of refurbishments being undertaken in each resident’s room.

New built-in nightstands will stand five feet high and include four locking cupboards on top, and four drawers on the bottom to store personal and basic care items, including treatments and a place for things like a clock, lamp, or book.

With a gift of $1240, you can help us begin to install 126 units.

By donating the cost of a new unit, you are helping improve your family member’s quality of life. These necessary upgrades are not funded by the Government but will help residents live more comfortably in their new home at Rocmaura.

At first thought, this may not seem like an urgent wish,  compared to other pressing needs in our community. But when you consider how our seniors have dedicated so much of their lives to others, and in their golden years, their basic needs for comfort are overlooked, you realize how important this project is.

Rocmaura Director of Nursing Lynn McPhee explains, “A majority of our residents live in shared accommodations. We are in need of a secure space to keep their care items safe and organized.  This will save much time for staff to have treatments stored right at their bedside. Nurses will have more quality time to spend one-on-one with each Resident.”

Executive Director Sheana Mohra says “Our nightstands are over 50 years old and are in bad shape, unfortunately, the government is not able to fund more than the "necessities of life".  Due to our aging building, Rocmaura is under pressure to undergo major upgrades to things like our sprinkler system. These urgent renovations keep coming, but there is no funding available for aesthetic improvements to our home. Our Foundation must fundraise to make these improvements happen.”

Foundation Director Sally Cummings says, “We want to provide a home-like atmosphere for our families, which is aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. We don't want our seniors stressing about their belongings. We want them to relax in beautiful surroundings and live life comfortably.

Phase II will match our Wardrobe Units which the Foundation raised over $500,000 to complete over 15 years. We have already received pledges from family members to build the first two units. Sheana Mohra and her brother Shawn have pledged to fund the first nightstand in their father’s room on Terrace Court. Emil Olsen has pledged a donation to build a unit for his wife Margo on Hopewell.  We are hoping your family might consider making a gift as well.

We thank you for your consideration of this very worthwhile project. Your generosity will enable Rocmaura to offer quality of care and provide a safe and secure “home away from home” for your loved one.

Sincerely,

Rocmaura Foundation Inc.
