I was raised in Saskatoon, and attended the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan (Class of 1990), where I also completed 3 years of specialty training in Internal Medicine. After proceeding to the University of Manitoba for Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology training, I studied Medical Mycology in San Antonio, Texas. In 1998 I returned to Saskatoon, where I am a medical microbiologist, head of the Division of Infectious Diseases, and medical lead for the Positive Living Program (HIV & chronic viral hepatitis care).
I have witnessed first-hand the challenges faced by many HIV positive individuals in Saskatchewan, as well as the remarkable positive impacts of the Sanctum Transitional Care Home and Beehive projects. Inspired by my patients and the participants in the first two Survivor events, I volunteered to participate in Sanctum Survivor 2018 with the goal of helping to make Sanctum 1.5 a reality.
