“Growing up middle class in the safe confines of Swift Current, I was never really exposed to much poverty. However, as the child of Taiwanese immigrants, I was raised with a high degree of empathy for people in need. I’ve been an active volunteer all my life, from camp counselling at Camp Shagabec, running conversation circles at the Open Door Society, and helping out wherever the Friendship Inn needs me. I’m participating in the Survivor Challenge because it’s the least I can do to bring awareness to people who deserve a better life. 36 hours will definitely test my resolve, but it pales in comparison to the uphill battle these members of society face every day.”
