When a person remembers Val Trombley, they remember her kindness, her generosity, her welcoming hugs, her compassion, and most importantly her love. Val was a homestay mom to 92 International Students from countries all over the world for Selkirk College in Castlegar, BC over the past 25 years. Her motto for these students was simple -welcome them with love and show them exactly what our culture was like while embracing their culture.
As our world continues to shrink and the global village brings cultures together, it is vital for post-secondary institutions to provide domestic students with the opportunity to study abroad and immerse themselves in a new country. These experiences help students to gain exciting new perspectives and bring a deepened sense cultural awareness that embodies Val's philosophy back home.
We invite you to honour the life of Val Trombley by contributing to the Val Trombley Study Abroad Awards Fund. Each year, this endowed fund will generate financial awards for Selkirk College students who are participating in an international study abroad experience.
Please note that should international study abroad opportunities be interrupted by Covid-19, any award disbursements will simply be carried forward until travel restrictions have been lifted.
