The largest wildfire recorded in Jasper National Park in the last 100 years has ravaged and destroyed a third of the popular tourist town of Jasper in Alberta. The flames could stay ablaze for months. As of Sunday night, officials said the fire tearing through Jasper and Jasper National Park has burned an estimated 79,000 acres, about 123 square miles. Out of the 1,113 structures within the town, 358 — about a third, have been destroyed and has forced 25,000 people to evacuate the area.
As per an update on Parks Canada website - "This is the largest wildfire recorded in Jasper National Park in the last 100 years, and ensuring that residents and visitors are safe to return will take time,"
In this time of distress, Sewa Canada International is embarking on providing food relief to evacuees and firefighters in the Edmonton area. Like we did during the wildfires last year, Sewa Canada International is collaborating with its partner WE TOGETHER STRONG COMMUNITY, who have a track record of providing hot meals to the needy in Edmonton city. We are looking to provide food materials and at least 1000 hot meals to evacuees and firefighters in the area.
If you would like to help with providing this relief to the evacuees, over the next few weeks, please donate generously.
100% of your donations are transferred to the work on the ground and are tax deductible in Canada. Regular updates of the work will be posted on our webpage.
