Are you ready to #RAWR4SASC!?

Support the RAWR test run - and the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region- by making a pledge today.

This summer, the Waterloo Region Crossing crew will test run a new multi-sport adventure race. The event will feature four different course lengths, ranging from 35-100kms, exploring Waterloo Region in a way that's never been done before. Cheer us on as we journey across our community, raising awareness about women's safety, encouraging more women to participate in adventure sport, and building a dialogue of empowerment and healing.

This event is in support of the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region, and is being built in direct response to the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives' recent report ranking Waterloo Region as the least safe metropolitan area for women to live in Canada.

More information:

Who We Are: Waterloo Region Crossing Inc is a not-for-profit company that coordinates endurance events wherein citizens challenge themselves in extraordinary circumstances to raise awareness about the most pressing issues facing our community. For example: In February of 2019, over 100 participants and crew undertook a 65km, 24 hour non-stop winter trek from Cambridge to West Montrose, with the group collectively fundraising nearly $45,000 for The Working Centre.

Why SASC?: The Sexual Assault Support Centre currently has a 140 person waiting list for survivors of sexual trauma. In celebration of their 30th year of operation, our goal is to inspire 30 community members to become monthly donors to SASC, in addition to our one-time event fundraising goal of $5,000.

Women in Adventure Sport: Adventure racing is typically a male-dominated sport, with women representing roughly 25% of adventure racing athletes. As a woman-founded organization, Waterloo Region Crossing Inc aims to turn that statistic on its head. Our events are geared to introduce women to adventure athletics with a focus on support, empowerment, and education. As this particular event is a fundraiser in support of SASC, we are building RAWR with a narrative of healing, to provide an opportunity for a survivors of sexual trauma and their supporting family and friends to experience a self-earned sense of achievement and triumph as they navigate through the challenges of an ambitious endurance event.

How Our Events Work: Participants in our events seek out peer-to-peer pledges to meet a collective fundraising goal. We aim to donate 100% of fundraising proceeds to SASC, with absolutely none of the fundraised dollars spent on event coordination, logistics, or administration. As such, we rely on amazing community partners to enable the success of our events through in-kind donations or sponsorship of specific event components.
