As many of you know, I moved to B.C. last October and was lucky enough to get a job with Sierra Club BC in January. I manage the Education Program at SCBC, which seeks to foster the next generation of environmental stewards by helping to get students outside more often. We do this through hands-on workshops that our environmental educators facilitate across the province, as well as professional development opportunities that we provide for teachers. My other colleagues work on a variety of campaigns that seek to protect some of the most beautiful places in this province, from helping to preserve the remaining old growth trees on Vancouver Island to working to stop the Kinder Morgan Pipeline and protect the Peace River Valley.
During the month of October, I am committing to spending at least 30 minutes outside in silence each day. For the most part, this will consist of sitting at the top of a rocky Garry Oak knoll on my cycling route to work. On the weekend and when I'm travelling back to Ontario for Thanksgiving, I'm excited to find other places to sit outdoors and reflect.
Please sponsor my commitment at whatever level you are able to. Every dollar you donate will help students spend more time outside and will also help to preserve some of the beautiful places here in B.C. that many of you know and love!
On behalf of myself and my wonderful co-workers, THANK YOU!
