Donations to this campaign go to supporting people participating in programs offered by the Squamish Welcome Centre who urgently need support covering their basic needs. Some examples of emergency support are minor medical costs during a health crisis, monthly bus passes for a struggling family, or a meal train for someone in need. Every dollar counts.

The Squamish Welcome Centre supports folks whose needs aren't met by other programs and services in Squamish. We’re thankful that there is a robust tapestry of social services in BC, but reduced budgets for federally funded programs such as the Migrant Worker Support Program and the vulnerability of newcomers who don’t yet have thick social ties in the community mean there is a big need for more support.

The Squamish Welcome Centre supports newcomers to Squamish who don't have a social network to fall back on and who aren’t eligible for other support.

"As an immigrant in Canada, I have experienced situations that I thought would not happen because I came here with a secure job; however, it has not been as I thought and drastic changes have occurred during our stay. Without the support of this community centre, I would not have made it through with my children because I am a single mother. With the help of the welcome centre, I feel very supported and have a positive attitude. The Squamish Welcome Centre's Urgent Needs program is fully reliant on people like you. For all donations to this campaign, 90% will go directly to the people in need, and 10% will go into coordinating and delivering that support.
