The current state of St. James’ church roof is a noticeable eyesore and the focus of frequent complaints from members of the church and the community. Furthermore, the old storm windows are decaying and threatening the beautiful stained glass windows they are meant to protect. The soffits and eaves troughs are also in a state of disrepair and other minor maintenance work is needed.
Thus the corporation of St. James has hired Thomas Alder of Restoration Guys Inc., who specializes in restoring old church buildings such as ours. He comes to us very highly recommended. Mr. Alder has begun his work at St. James and you can expect to see construction equipment in the church driveways for the next four to six weeks.
The total cost of this restoration project is estimated at $69,600 plus HST. It is proposed that the project will be funded from three sources:
- $25,000 from our restricted funds;
- $25,000 from operating cash;
- and the balance of $25,000 to come from a capital campaign, which we plan to raise by the end of 2019.
We are announcing the commencement of our $25,000 capital campaign. If each member of St. James were to donate an average of $600, we would raise the needed $25,000. Some will have the ability to give more and others less. We also welcome contributions from the wider community. All donations of any amount will be greatly appreciated.
Would you consider giving to support this campaign? You may choose to make a one-time payment or commit to multiple installments with post-dated cheques over the next six months. You can also give online through CanadHelps. All donations are tax deductible.
You will be pleased to hear that in our consultation with the Diocese, our congregation has been given an A+ rating for financial health. We are profoundly grateful for your remarkable generosity in the past in supporting the mission and ministry of St. James. Your continued generosity and contributions to this project will ensure the preservation of our beautiful church building ‘in the heart of the village’ for the next generation.
Speaking of which, we are most thankful to God for the signs of new life here at St. James. This past summer, we hosted a highly successful Vacation Bible School with 19 children from the community. Our new Bible Adventure Club (Sunday School) began in September and is growing. Our new website is vibrant and user-friendly. We have recently welcomed several new members. Thus the restoration of our church roof and exterior will be an outward and visible sign of this new vibrancy within our congregation.
Please give serious consideration to supporting this vital fundraising campaign. Thank you.
