Forgotten Refugees Film
A documentary about the mass exodus of Jews from Arab countries and Iran in the 20th century. Expelled by persecution, many of these communities existed for over 2,500 years. Employing extensive testimony of survivors, the film recounts the history of almost one million refugees. Their accounts of suffering and survival, of being forced to leave behind their family and community homes, synagogues, wealth, history and identity. Contemporary footage reveals the destruction of these communities, and overwhelming evidence of the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Arab countries and North Africa.
For two weeks in March, a delegation of 8 young Israelis will travel through Canada demonstrating the religious and ethnically diverse tapestry of Israeli citizens. Jews, (including those with Mizrachi heritage), Bedouin, Druze, they tell their story of service in the IDF, of the coexistence and tolerance in Israel. The project is presented by StandWithUs Canada, one of the leading international pro-Israel education and advocacy organizations, the members trained in the StandWithUs Israel office, with a goal to combat the extremism and antisemitism on university campuses and in high schools and communities. WordSwap will be meeting students, offering coffee and conversation, and demonstrating the true face of diversity in Israel.
