To ensure our staff and participants' safety, Stella's Place has closed our physical location at 18 Camden Street until further notice. While we had to stop our face-to face in-house programming, we rapidly switched to phone, text and video support to continue to deliver the services that help our young adults to improve and maintain good mental health. All of our platforms are security and privacy compliant and our participants have responded with remarkable resilience and flexibility. With regular life as we know it shutting down and social distancing becoming the norm, many of our young people are feeling more anxious and stressed than usual. We responded by greatly expanding service hours for our secure mobile chat application, BeanBagChat, and the uptake has been swift (increase of 300% in week two). Through the privacy of their cell phones, young adults are supported to manage through this health crisis. In addition, we are providing peer support via phone and video counselling. Our clinicians are also offering counselling sessions over the phone and on video technology. While group materials are delivered in individual sessions for now, we are exploring secure technologies that will allow sessions to continue in a group format. “Walk-in” counselling is now offered virtually and has been doubled from one to two afternoons per week. Our psychiatrist is accessible remotely as well as pre-employment counselling. And our Studio is continuing virtually by offering weekly art projects that participants can work on at home and then share and discuss via email and social media. Studio will be offered "live" on a video conferencing platform starting next week and we are working on providing our fitness and yoga classes in an online format.
