Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary Mission
A wild oasis in the heart of the urban landscape since 1975. The 62 hectares of beautiful marshland and spectacular Garry oak meadow (one of Canada's most threatened ecosystems) provides a home to an incredible array of native plants and wild animals.
The Society's mission is to restore habitat at Swan Lake and Christmas Hill, to connect children with nature through educational programs, and to provide experiences for adults that will help them become personally responsible for the care and protection of our natural environment. We invite you to join us and share our success.
About Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary Society
Site staff restore and maintain these natural habitats and provide trail access through them. Trails range from wheelchair / stroller accessible to gentle inclines to rocky climbs.
Trained naturalists offer education programs that bring land and people together on intimate terms; they inspire and guide visitors in understanding and appreciating the natural world. Here land is for learning and we have a wonderful outdoor classroom every season of the year.
The Nature House with live creatures, educational exhibits and trained staff provide the opportunity for people to explore and discover the wonders of nature on their own.
Drop in and experience the restorative powers of nature, write a letter, or watch the hummingbirds feed. Rain or shine this is a spectacular place to relax.
