To ensure The GRAND’s marquee is lit and the doors can re-open, we need to raise $20,000 by May 1, 2020.
On Thursday March 12th there was a collective gasp around our team at The GRAND. The financial impact of the social distance measures for the COVID-19 pandemic hit home. Like almost every other business in the hospitality, events, entertainment and arts sectors in Canada, in two short hours, we watched our next ninety days or more of arts and cultural programming cancel, and with that, the event and arts rental revenue evaporated.
As the concern surrounding the virus rose, we took the position immediately that the health and safety of our staff, resident theatre companies, tenants, volunteers, guests and their families was our highest priority. The tough decision was made to close the entire facility and temporarily layoff our team until further notice.
The devastating impact of social distancing, which is clearly the only way to flatten the curve, on our operating revenue now leaves The GRAND, along all its fellow arts organizations, artists, freelancers, performers, technicians, musicians and thousands of other highly skilled workers with incredible challenges in planning a future when this situation passes.
We at The GRAND need your help to ensure we can reopen our doors when normal life resumes.
The COVID 19 crisis threatens the entire arts community for which this theatre exists. We are hoping that dreamers, thinkers and makers across our City will join us for this significant fundraising campaign.
100% of your donation will fund our ability to support the arts community when the crisis is over, keeping this beautiful building and its culture thriving.
To ensure The GRAND’s marquee is lit and the doors are reopened at the end of this, we need to raise $20,000 by May 1, 2020.
No donation is too small, whether you can donate $10 or $1000, everything helps.
Thank you so much for your support to The GRAND's enduring purpose.
*** To thank you for your support, and in keeping with our love to support local initiatives, any donation over $100 will receive 2 tickets to a mystery performance next season. What we can tell you, is that it will be a performance on a Friday night in Calgary. Cheers to the unknown ***
