COVID-19 Support, Children's Foundation of Guelph and Wellington

Campaign Ends Aug. 31, 2020

During these challenging and uncertain times, our organization has chosen to respond with compassion and the willingness to help however we can. This pandemic has shone a bright spotlight on how truly interconnected we are, and has also highlighted the inequities in our world; and while we might say that we're all in the same storm, the truth is, we are not in the same boat. People living in poverty can have a very different experience of the world and their community than those in a more fortunate position.

This is something the Children's Foundation is familiar with and the driving force behind our Fresh Food for Kids initiative and our Free to Grow at Home program. We are working to help support those in poverty who are facing even more difficult times than usual.

Free to Grow at Home

The Children’s Foundation Free to Grow Program supports kids from low-income homes to participate in recreational and life-skill development activities. With so many activities (such as swimming, camp and sports) being cancelled this summer due to the ongoing pandemic, we are committed to finding new, creative ways to support the well-being and healthy development of kids in our community.

The value of play for children, especially during times of stress and uncertainty, cannot be underestimated. Free to Grow at Home encourages youth to be outdoors and to participate in activities that require physical and creative engagement. In partnership with other local organizations and businesses, our goal is to provide recreational equipment, supplies and resources for home so that kids can get back to the important work of childhood ~ play!

Fresh Food for Kids

Like so many in Guelph-Wellington, the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington is concerned about how best to support the most vulnerable in our community during this unprecedented time of shut-downs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are especially concerned about the children and youth who rely on food support through our Food & Friends student nutrition program, and we've been working hard to find creative ways to provide for their needs.

To respond to this emergency, the Children’s Foundation in partnership with other local organizations, has created a temporary emergency support initiative called Fresh Food for Kids which will provide nutritious food to local children and youth in need in Dufferin, Wellington and Guelph.
