The first phase of the Cultural Centre Transformation is the Blackfoot exhibit Ki'pait'apiiyssinnooni, which is inspired by Blackfoot lodge design and pays homage to tradition and the land. Curated by Star Crop Eared Wolf a Niitsitapi multidisciplinary artist and member of the Kainai Nation, it will feature a collection of items recreated by local Blackfoot artists to ensure proper credit and compensation to the artists and to acknowledge that existing pieces are still in use by Blackfoot people. Using Blackfoot culture and history, this exhibit will showcase the connections to the land, animals, and cosmic relations. Featured artists and elders will immerse visitors in the Blackfoot culture through visual, educational, and interactive exhibits. The goal of our newest exhibit is to immerse and educate visitors in Blackfoot culture and history through visual, educational, and interactive exhibits. Visitors will experience and explore Blackfoot creation stories told by elders and cultural items created by artists.
The next phases of the Cultural Centre Transformation will focus on stories from the Stoney Nakoda, Tsuut’ina Nations and Métis Nation of Alberta. When the entire exhibit project is complete in approximately three years, The Confluence Cultural Centre will share stories about all the Treaty 7 Nations, the Métis Nation of Alberta, the North-West Mounted Police, Fort Calgary and industrialization.
