ERSM Cyclothon Papillon : for the love of learning - and Monarchs!

On June 9th 2018, the students, parents, friends and alumni of École Rudolf Steiner de Montréal will be participating in a cyclothon to support the school and, in partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation, we will be planting Milkweed seeds all around Notre-Dame-Grâce - and the island of Montreal! - to help feed the endangered Monarch butterfly.

École Rudolf Steiner School de Montréal (ERSM) is the only school in the Montreal area to offer Waldorf pedagogy. As such, it is part of the international school movement Steiner / Waldorf which includes more than 1200 schools and more than 2000 kindergartens in 90 countries. This century-old pedagogy has proved its worth. Cultivating initiative, arousing enthusiasm for learning, supporting creative thinking, fostering collaboration instead of competition - these are some of the challenges that Waldorf Education offers to students.

In a Waldorf school, the connection with nature is an intrinsic part of the teaching. It is with this in mind that the school has adopted the cause of the protection of biodiversity. This year, we are partnering with the David Suzuki Foundation for a project called L'effet papillon, designed to help the Monarch butterfly, whose population has dropped dramatically in recent years. Our cyclothon's theme and goal is to contribute to the creation of habitat for the Monarch, which is becoming an endangered species in North America.
