Details

The Hammer Band was founded in 2007 by world-renowned Canadian violinist, Moshe Hammer.  We provide violins and music lessons (at no cost) to children and youth in the neediest neighbourhoods across the GTA (Regent Park, Jane & Finch, Scarborough, Brampton).  Our mission is to level the playing field between the haves and have-nots in our community, providing at-risk children and youth the many benefits of music and leadership education. Our work has “changed tunes – changed lives” of over 5000 children over the past 10 years;  this past school year we served 1000 students across 40 schools! Children who learn to play an instrument and perform together learn important life skills such as self-discipline, teamwork and resilience. Our Hammer Band students demonstrate improved academic performance, self-confidence and are more engaged with their peers.
