The challenges of mental health can be invisible to others, but the stigma is real and can have a huge impact on perception of self and self-esteem. We hope to step a bit outside our comfort zones and bring attention to mental health and the stigma surrounding it by using the little black dress as a visual aid. Help the Junior League of Toronto make stigma unfashionable!

How does it work?

Each participant commits to wearing the same black dress for a week to illustrate the effects that stigma can have on day-to-day life, confidence and self-esteem. The journey will be documented on social media to help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and raise awareness about our campaign. By raising donations from sponsors, family, and friends, the Junior League of Toronto will be able to work on its new program to help boost self-esteem in youth by providing enriching activities and improve quality of life for the clients of CAMH. This program is done in partnership with CAMH gifts of Light.

When does this take place?

The Little Black Dress Initiative will take place from November 21-25 as a lead up to Giving Tuesday on November 29.
