Your Lung Association AB & NWT continues to focus hard to develop supports and information about Coronavirus and its impacts on those with lung disease like asthma and COPD to name just a few. We have created an on line community through our website www.ab.lung.ca and social media to ensure that lung disease patients as well as the general public have a place to go for support, information and engagement with experts.
As you know Coronavirus affects those with lung disease more than any other sector, now more than ever your support is appreciated. The recent crisis of COVID-19 is new, but The Lung Association has been down this road before. We were founded in 1939 by people who wanted to help save lives from tuberculosis, the public health emergency of that time. Since then, we’ve gone on to respond to other lung health challenges from asthma and H1N1 to the youth vaping epidemic and lung cancer to name just a few. We encourage all Canadians to stay home and stay safe, but also feel we need to do our part as leaders in lung health.
Lung disease receives less than 5% of the available research funding and yet it affects 1 in 5 Canadians. This needs to change to change lives, it is more important than ever to find better treatments, cures and supports for those suffering now and in the future. Your impact on Canadians who are struggling to breathe is extraordinary, your decision to stay home to avoid the spread of this disease and protect others is appreciated!
YOU help us to continue our mission to address and shine a spotlight on the issue of better breathing for all. After all, if you can't breathe, nothing else matters!
