The Long, Long Night of Hope 2017
THE PARISH OF ST JOHN THE EVANGELIST NORTH VANCOUVER
St. John's Anglican Church, serving North Vancouver for over a century, is partnering with The Lookout Emergency Aid Society of North Vancouver to bring you The Long, Long Night of Hope 2017!
Did you know:
- There are more than 3000 homeless in the Greater Vancouver area - there is no way to know exactly how many
- Approximately one-third of homeless people live in their vehicles
- It costs approximately $6.25 per person per day to provide 3 meals and a snack at the North Shore Emergency Homeless Shelter (705 West 2nd Street, North Vancouver)
- Women and families are not permitted at the North Shore Shelter - they must either travel over to Vancouver or be put up at a local motel (if sponsorship can be found)
We want to help, and we need your participation to do that by either taking part in or donating to The Long, Long Night of Hope.
During this overnight event, participants will bundle into sleeping bags and warm blankets to spend the night in their car, while others stretch out on the hard wooden pews inside St. John's Anglican Church.
They will get a tiny taste of what it is like for the thousands of homeless men, women and children living in the Lower Mainland, and document their journey on social media.
More importantly, they will raise funds in support of The Lookout Emergency Aid Society's programs and shelter in North Vancouver.
